The Scarlet Ibis

We are reading The Scarlet Ibis in class. Students are to keep a running list of words they are unfamiliar with (the lists will be used when we finish reading the story), as well as predictions and/or questions they are composing at particular points in the story.

The story has a level of language that can create a barrier for some students. I would like students to understand the events of the story first, which is why this is the focus of multiple days in class. If students are struggling, it would be a good idea for them to read the piece (and maintain this strategy in the future) on their own at home ahead of time, so the classroom instruction is not their first interaction with the text.
